March Book Haul

A stack of books I bought in March including: The Vorrh, Deathless, Uprooted, A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, and The Queen of the Tearling

1) A Darker Shade of Magic and A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Scwhab
I read V.E. Schwab’s A Darker Shade of Magic in early March and loved it. If you’re interested, you can read a more in-depth review of that here. I still haven’t gotten around to reading A Gathering of Shadows, but I’m so excited to see where things are headed.

2) The Vorrh by B. Catling
I’ve been admiring this one for a long time. It has this beautiful textured cover design (I have a thing with textures…), crazy beautiful end papers, and praise from Alan Moore (who wrote a bunch of very famous and award winning comics, including V for Vendetta, Watchmen, and From Hell). Pretty cool.

3) Deathless by Catherine M. Valente
This is another book that I’ve been eyeing for a while, but I didn’t really decide to pick it up until a new friend told me that it was one of her all-time favourite books. And then proceeded to tell me that much of it was inspired by Russian folklore. Sold.

4) The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
This was another library-book-turned-purchase. I took it out of the library last summer to read while off camping in Tobermory and I really enjoyed it. The hardcover, particularly, is super beautiful, and feels extra special because of the red ribbon bookmark. When I saw TQotT in the bargain section at Chapter’s a couple of weeks ago, I couldn’t help but scoop it up. That bargain section, I tell you…

5) Uprooted by Naomi Novik
Clearly, I have a tendency to ogle books for a while before I actually get around to picking them up. This is another one of those books. But I noticed it on sale at Chapters and decided to grab it.
